Pastor Steven's Mid Week Encouragement Curation: PEOPLE

We all navigate in a world full of odd, lovely, hurtful, delicate, energetic, sad, beautiful and broken people. At FBCP we believe this engagement with people should begin and end with love. And not just the kind of love that tends to be the focus of our particular cultural moment, but a deeper, more thoughtful, more intentional, patient and creative kind of love.
The classical Greek language had multiple words for love that provided a kind of robust framework for cultivating the different kinds of love that one encounters and initiates in one's everyday life.Unfortunately, our one, little English word for love can't keep up with all the different kinds of love that we must attend to and seek to understand. Perhaps then we should begin with the classical categories of love: Affection, Romance, Friendship & Charity. Maybe this will help us love well as we learn to love more strategically towards that particular kind of love that we have for our family (affection), the love that burns with desire and curiosity for someone very special to us (romance), the love that we have for a few close people with whom we share experiences, happy community and meaningful belonging (friendship), and the love that gives generously and sacrificially toward others with a God-like intentionality and graciousness (charity).
Perhaps these four categories of love will at least move us in the right direction!
The curated music below is intended to be an encouragement to you right in the middle of your week as you journey with and for the people in your life. May you and I move with love today for God and neighbor. Enjoy!
